Tuesday Afternoon Ladies’ Bible Class at Grace Church Congregational

Matthew 4:23-24

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

The Ladies’ Bible Class of Grace Church resumed its fall, winter and spring semester meetings in October, 2018.  The class meets Tuesday afternoon.

The time of the study is 1:00 – 2:30.

Our study of the book of Isaiah took about three years to complete. But it has served as a very good basis for our subsequent studies. During 2016, the class study book was Glory Veiled and Unveiled, A Heart-Searching Look at Christ’s Parables, by Gerald M. Bilkes. The class members found that this study provided them with new insights into Christ’s parables. The class liked the format and writing of the book, and so wanted their next class book to be by the same author. As a result, the class book starting in the fall of 2017 was Memoirs of the Way Home, Ezra and Nehemiah as a Call to Conversion, also by Gerald M. Bilkes.  The class found that this book described a very interesting and inspiring journey, especially in its description of prayers of the people.

Returning to the New Testament, the class book for fall 2018 is again by Gerald M. Bilkes, Mercy Revealed, A Cross-Centered Look at Christ’s Miracles. This book has been enjoyable for the class especially since it is has connections to the Adult Sunday School Class which is studying the book of Matthew. The introduction states, “Ultimately, all the miracles should lead us to Calvary and the empty tomb, where we see the most miraculous event of all.”

The Ladies’ Bible Class is conducted as follows:

The class begins with prayer.

Subjects for prayer requests are identified.

All members have the opportunity to pray.

One member of the class (on a rotating basis) leads the class, and passes the questions from the study book to members. Other members also provide their insights to the questions.

The class ends in prayer.

Often, the class sends notes of encouragement to prayer request subjects.

During the past year, class members have been especially thankful for our answered prayers.

The Ladies’ Bible Class collects a small amount of contributions from members.  When a sufficient amount is collected, the group decides how it could be used to benefit Grace Church or the Grace Church family. The group also may contribute to Grace Church missionaries. Recently, the LBC contributed funds for landscaping mulch, and for the Christmas poinsettias for the sanctuary.

We are very thankful for this class. Margaret Barbour estimates the class has been conducted for over 30 years.
