The Ladies’ Bible Class of Grace Church resumes its meetings on October 3rd, 2017.

The class meets Tuesday afternoon, 1:15 – 2:45 at Grace Church.

The class has fall, winter and spring semesters.  Please see calendar below.

Ezra 1:1 – 3.

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying,

Thus says Cyrus king of Persia:

All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah. Who is among you of all His people? May his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel (He is God), which is in Jerusalem.

Pastor Tom Bridgman will present an introduction to Ezra and Nehemiah during a designated Tuesday class.

Last spring, the class completed the study of New Testament parables with the book Glory Veiled and Unveiled, A Heart-Searching Look at Christ’s Parables, by Gerald M. Bilkes. The class was thankful for the many new insights about parables gained in this study. This semester, the class will use as its study book Memoirs of the Way Home, Ezra and Nehemiah as a Call to Conversion, also by Gerald M. Bilkes. The author states in his introduction:

The year is 538 BC, and the Persian king, Cyrus, has just issued a proclamation that the Jewish exiles can return home. All throughout the Jewish settlements, the word spreads: “We can return home! We are free to go! The prophets were right. God has opened the prison doors of exile.” For the next hundred years, waves of journeying groups travel the dusty roads from Babylon and Persia back to Judah. How would you like to be able to read some memoirs written by someone taking that journey?

  • The Ladies’ Bible Class is conducted as follows:
  • The class begins with prayer.
  • Subjects for prayer requests are identified.
  • All members have the opportunity to pray.
  • One member of the class (on a rotating basis) leads the class, and passes the questions from the study book to members. Other members also provide their insights to the questions.
  • The class ends in prayer.

Often, the class sends notes of encouragement to prayer request subjects.

During the past year, class members have been especially thankful for our answered prayers.

The Ladies’ Bible Class collects a small amount of contributions from members.  When a sufficient amount is collected, the group decides how it could be used to benefit Grace Church or the Grace Church family.  Recently, the LBC contributed funds for new Christmas decorations for the candles in the upstairs windows, and new wreaths for the sanctuary.  Also the group contributed funds for landscaping mulch. The group also may contribute to Grace Church missionaries.

We are very thankful for this class. Margaret Barbour estimates the class has been conducted for over 30 years.
